Yachting in France

France’s yachting appeal lies in its ability to combine polished coastal living with deep-rooted maritime heritage. The country offers a wide spectrum of experiences, from the established glamour of the Riviera to the quieter, more restrained beauty of Corsica’s coastline. Chartering here is less about distance and more about refinement, access, and timing.

The French Riviera, stretching from the Italian border through Monaco towards Saint-Tropez, is internationally recognised as one of the world’s leading centres for luxury yachting. Its reputation is reinforced by a calendar of major maritime and cultural events, including the Cannes Film Festival, Monaco Yacht Show, and Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez, which draw yachts, owners, and charter guests from across the globe. World-class marinas, elegant beach clubs, and a strong connection between sea and shore give the region a distinctive sense of place.

Along the Côte d’Azur, short cruising passages link ports such as Antibes, Cannes, and Saint-Tropez, allowing itineraries to unfold at a relaxed pace. Beyond the marinas, sheltered bays provide privacy just moments from vibrant coastal towns. Corsica introduces a clear contrast, with rugged landscapes, clear waters, and anchorages that feel far removed from the mainland’s social energy.

Charters in France are particularly suited to charterers who value culture, world-class cuisine and a curated blend of social energy and tranquil anchorages. On water, you can explore sheltered bays and fine dining ashore without sacrificing privacy or personal space.

When to Visit?

The principal charter season along France’s Mediterranean coast runs from May through September, which aligns with the region’s Mediterranean climate and the most favourable cruising conditions for yachts. This period typically offers warm, dry weather, calm seas and long daylight hours that are well suited to exploring the Riviera’s celebrated anchorages and harbour towns.

Peak season generally falls between June and August, when temperatures are rightfully warm and sea temperatures support extended swimming and watersports. During these summer months the Riviera’s social calendar is especially vibrant, hosting major cultural and yachting events that elevate demand for charters. Highlights include the Cannes Film Festival in May, the Monaco Grand Prix in late May, and the Monaco Yacht Show and Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

Shoulder months such as May, June and September are particularly appealing to charter guests seeking a more refined pace and enhanced privacy. In these months, marinas are less congested, and there is generally better availability for preferred berths and yacht types.

For many travellers, September stands out because it combines good weather with major events like the Cannes Yachting Festival and Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez regatta, while the summer crowds begin to dissipate and anchorages feel more intimate.
